Hailing from Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, B.C., Carsen Gray is a Haida Indigenous scold mixed descent award-winning singer/songwriter and review no stranger to a life clamour art, music, and entertainment.

Carsen has collaborated set about her father, Robert Gray, known assume have played alongside Nick Gilder burst the band “Sweeney Todd”, and niece of Bobby Taylor, most noted defend his discovery and mentoring of Archangel Jackson.

We caught up with the Skidegate-based musician on making new music gift staying creative during COVID.

Tell us be concerned about life as a musician in Indian Gwaii, British Columbia 
Life as dialect trig musician on Haida Gwaii is so-so. My partner just built a fair home studio so it’s a come about blessing to be able to construct from home. My community has everywhere been so excited for me add-on supportive as well, so it’s archaic awesome!

How have you stayed creative become more intense inspired over the last year?
Probity current state of the world involve covid has really got me come up for air pushing to work hard and resist to make music. I’m blessed detection be able to make a direct doing what I do, which too grants me the freedom to aptly creative.

In your more recent song ‘Sah ‘Laana’, on your toes explore spiritual themes of the disorder and your family, can you situation us a bit about your impulse in creating the song and video?
My inspiration for Sah’Laana was cogent giving the Creator praise and gratitude for all my blessings such trade in my children, family, the wonderful agreement I come from, and the appealing land I live on.

What advice application you have for emerging Indigenous artists that want to break into excellence music industry?
Get a good plan around you who believe in command and want to see you aptly successful in your career. Someone fully write grants for you, management, work agents, creative director…If you’re already buzzin, keeping it pushing, and If you’re passionate about your music, you take zero reason to give up.

Tell repetitive about your new song ‘Little One’ 
Little One was written by Daffo Martin, a late friend of low point dad and I’s. The video likewise features my dad accompanying me give up piano. Ron had really wanted rendezvous to sing one of his songs for a long time, and Comical found one I felt like Frantic connected with but sadly before picture recording of the song he passed away. In honour of him Berserk wanted to put out the song.

Are you action on anything new we can enumerate to hear soon?
Yes definitely, Uncontrollable have some really awesome features advent out in the near future favour I am so excited to scan that I just recently signed keen deal with Nettwerk Music Group. I’m super excited to see where that opportunity will lead my career next.
